Thursday, September 15, 2022 –Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has confirmed that hundreds of Kenyans now want to pull out of the electoral register.

Speaking shortly after a huge uproar from across the country on Wednesday September 14, IEBC officials confirmed that some Kenyans now want to be removed from the voters’ register citing dissatisfaction with whole  electoral system in the country.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati addressing.

Though the IEBC did not tell how many voters had petitioned for removal, it promised to make an official statement on the same this or next week.

Many of those who now want nothing to do with the Wafula Chebukati-led commission say they were severely heartbroken by the happenings at the IEBC especially in the August 9 polls.

“The process is that you write a letter to the CEO of IEBC (Hussein Marjan) and attach a copy of your Identification card and an acknowledgement slip,” Andron Nyaochi, stated while being interviewed on KTN News.

But making a legal point on such a move, renowned Constitution Lawyer, Bobby Mkangi, said it would be difficult for the IEBC to make such changes in their register because it has no legal jurisdiction.

He added that only those who have died are expunged from the register by the IEBC but not those still alive or, perhaps, those with extra-ordinary reasons like changing citizenship permanently.

Lawyer Mkangi also noted that the exercise, if allowed, may turn out to be costly for the IEBC owing to fact that anybody who gets annoyed with an election outcome would quickly match to their offices for removal then next time again wants to be added.
