Wednesday, November 3, 2021 –Deputy president William Ruto has today challenged Senator Irungu Kang’ata to up his game if he wants to win the 2022 competitive governor race in Murang’a County.
In an attempt to make the gathering happy with some fare back home after a daylong public meeting, the senator took to podium and pledged to part with sh 40,000 to be shared among the locals who had attended a local funds drive.
But the DP quickly grabbed the microphone from Kang’ata and threw a light jibe at him on why he was giving only sh 40,000 when he wants to become the next governor. Ruto went ahead to challenge Kang’ata to learn giving substantial amounts for him to fit in the governor’s shoes.
“And you want to be governor, sh 40,000 is not enough for a gubernatorial figure, go and look for sh 100,000 and bring it here. A governor can’t give sh4 0,000. If you don’t have enough I can loan you some,” the DP said amid laughter from the crowd.
Mr. Kang’ata had received politicians and leaders from their United Democratic Alliance UDA Party for a funds drive graced by the second in command.
The harambee took place at Gatunyu Grounds in Murang’a County where the DP launched a sh 100 million kitty in support of the disadvantaged learners in the region.
Sometimes last year, Senator Kang’ata was trolled by members of the public for displaying a poor-mans-life through his attires and the type of cars he drove despite earning a whopping sh 1 million every month.
“I live a simple life. I am a pragmatic guy. I do not like a showy life and extravagance. Surely what value does a big car add to my life? It does not matter if a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice?” he would responded.
In 2013 when he was first elected to the Senate, guards at the Senate canteen ejected him out thinking he was an just imposter.
