Monday, July 4, 2022 –Deputy President William Ruto has confessed his voice in the viral audio in which he is heard threatening to slap the head of State over the highly contest 2017 repeat elections.
On Monday July 4, the UDA Party leader said he was the one in the audio recording but regretted that some individuals with a sinister motive are now recording him secretly to paint him as a bad man.
Addressing the matter in a rally held in Imenti in Meru County, the second in command said he has no regret over the audio recording because he believed they won the election and there is no way they could easily leave power to their opponents.
“Now they are secretly recording people and sharing it all over that Ruto pushed the President. Did you want us to allow him to leave the seat which we woke up at 5 am?” he posed.
He went ahead and said it was in his right to push Uhuru to remain steadfast in the wake of controversy that was surrounding the election.
“Even If I forced him, is there any problem? Was it not because he is my friend. Allow me to ask, when Maraga nullified the elections and ordered that we should go for a repeat, did you want him to drop his bid. Would you have allowed him to leave us in the dark after all we did to ensure he wins the seat?” he went on.
The DP reasoned that the time and resources he had personally invested into the campaigns could not allow him to pave way for an outsider to take power from them.
“I did the majority of the campaigning, I would hold three meetings before the president joined me. There was no way I would allow Raila to take the seat from him – even if it meant pushing Uhuru to whatever limits, I would,” the DP added.
His allies have also joined him in supporting his firm stance in the leaked clip that he was heard threatening to land a slap on his boss.
