Dr. Richard Leakey is Dead

Monday, January 3, 2022 –President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed death of former head Public Service Dr. Richard Leakey.

In a statement released on Sunday January 2, President Kenyatta announced that Dr. Leakey had breathed his last in a Nairobi hospital.

The late World-renowned paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey.

He mentioned Leakey as a prominent role model in both local and international civil society sector. Leakey successfully managed the Conservation Organization Wildlife Direct.

“Dr Leakey, a globally renowned Kenyan paleoanthropologist and conservationist, has over the years served our country with distinction in several public service roles among them as Director of the National Museums of Kenya and Chairman of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Directors.

“On behalf of the people of Kenya, my family and on my own behalf, I send heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the family, friends and associates of Dr. Richard Leakey during this difficult period of mourning,” Kenyatta stated.

The late conservationist has had his fair share of life challenges including falling off a horse in an incident that led to a fractured skull. This was during his childhood period.

He would also be bitten by a venomous Puff Adder snake before his father quickly intervened and injected him with an anti-venom liquid which managed to suppress the poison.

Leakey would years later start experiencing kidney complications in a state that his doctors described as irreversible. Luckily, his caring wife donated one for him extending his lifespan.

At some point in life, further, the expert also lost control of a private plane he was flying in a scene that almost claimed his life.
