Tuesday, March 7, 2023Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga, was forced to dash at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI headquarters on Tuesday March 7 following a standoff between Dr. Fred Matiang’i and the detectives.

Just minutes after visiting the Senate to receive his dividends at noon, Odinga drove directly to the DCI offices where he joined other opposition-allied leaders in demanding for Matiang’i’s freedom.

The former Prime Minister arrived in a fleet of black SUVs amidst cheers from their supporters who demanded that the gates be opened for him.

He was, nonetheless, denied entry for more than 15 minutes forcing him to alight from his car to confront the security officers who had blocked his way.

“Fungulia Rais.…..fungulia rais gate haraka,” the supporters shouted as Odinga who was in the company of many other allies sought to know why a public office was not open for everybody.

Today Tuesday March 7 morning, the former CS presented himself at the offices where he is still being held up now seven hours later.

This triggered Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo to raise an alarm on social media saying Matiang’i was not being respected.

“Interesting times, with former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, at DCI Kiambu.

“5 hours later, still held in abeyance after only 15 mins engagement. This, despite a High Court order! This is no investigation, pure vendetta and witch-hunt. Sad indeed!” he lamented.

An impeccable source within the DCI Headquarters whispered that a stalemate ensued earlier in the day after Matiang’i’s lawyers had declined to allow their client to record a statement.
