Wednesday, February 16, 2022 –Democratic Republic of Congo DRC has sustained pressure against Deputy President William Ruto to apologize for making disrespectful remarks aimed at demeaning the Central Africa nation.
In a Wednesday February 16 statement signed by Kenya’s Ambassador in Kinshasa Congo, Mr George Masafu, the comments from the second in command had stirred a storm around DRC and ought to be withdrawn as soon as it can be possible.
“The Embassy has informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi on the negative reactions that the comments have triggered among the business community and general populace in the DRC,” partly read a statement from Masafu.
He added that the lasting relationship between Kenya and DRC Congo will be protected from such remarks because the two nations have enjoyed a cordial interaction for many years.
He also indicated that the matter had been escalated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kenya which will be working on resolving the impasse in a more sober manner.
Ruto’s remarks came when the DP was addressing in his UDA Nyeri rally on Monday February 14. He described DRC as a nation which has no single dairy animal and that they only know how to dance Ndombolo.
Shortly after this statement, an enraged Congo’s Senator for Katanga Province, Francine Muyumba asked the DP to quickly withdraw the remarks.
“Mr Vice President, this is really unacceptable, with all due respect, there is a need to withdraw this statement,” Muyumba’s statement read in part.
Unfortunately, upto now, Ruto is yet to talk about this matter.
