Thursday, May 18, 2023 –Individuals caught impersonating Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha have been identified as Edith Khaemba and Samuel Moli.
The duo are currently in police custody for collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public in the guise of helping them secure positions in various departments in the Health Ministry.
The statement released on Wednesday May 17 said the pair of Edith Khaemba and Samuel Moli, were nabbed at Afya House by detectives who had been on their radar following an accurate tip off from certain specifics victims.
“Law enforcement authorities achieved a significant breakthrough today as they successfully executed a meticulously planned sting operation, leading to the prompt apprehension of two individuals involved in suspected impersonation,” read the statement.
This saw law enforcers mount a well-orchestrated operation that lured the partners into a dragnet within Afya House walls
“The police orchestrated an operation that strategically lured the suspects to a predetermined location, ensuring their swift arrest,” detectives added.
The arrest of the duo came after the Health CS vowed to weed out corrupt individuals in the health sector.
During the launch of EACC’s report on Corruption and Unethical Conduct in Kenyan Healthcare Projects on Wednesday, CS Wafula disclosed that her initial attempts to have the commission investigate malpractices at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority KEMSA were met with resistance by some high-ranking officials within her ministry.
Currently, EACC is looking into massive irregularities in the awarding of a tender for the procurement of anti-mosquito nets at KEMSA.
