Friday, July 28, 2023 –A senior police officer based in Nairobi has been arrested over claims of bribery and threatening residents.
Anti-graft agency today Friday July 28 pounced on Inspector of Police In-Charge of Zimmerman Police Post, Susan Wambui Muiruri, in the Kasarani Police Division following reports of bad conduct at work.
Ahead of her arraignment before the Anti-Corruption Court in Milimani, the cop was arrested after both the Director of Public Prosecutions and ICC came to the same conclusion that she had committed the crime while on duty.
It is said that Muiruri solicited a bribe of sh 10,000 from a complainant in order to facilitate release of his girlfriend who had been arrested at the station.
“That on the 25th day of April, 2021 at Kasarani Police Station, within Nairobi City County, being a person employed by a public body to wit, National Police Service as an Inspector, you requested for a financial advantage of sh10,000 from Juma Olunga Wakhayanga with intent that, you would improperly facilitate his release and Pamela Kajuju from police custody,” the charge sheet reads.
The said bribe was also to help erase particulars of the girlfriend from the OB Book which, nowadays, she claimed, is digital and cumbersome to trace.
She, therefore, on April 25, 202, received the sh 10,000 from the complainant in a mobile transaction carried out through M-Pesa.
It was also established that the complainant had, at some point, been arrested and locked in police cells without any reason.
The police officer kept threatening and intimidating him anytime he came over to seek justice for his girlfriend who was in custody, unlawfully.
The arrested person was working in the complainant’s Wines and Spirits shop christened ‘Santo Marina Lounge’ in Zimmerman area.
At the material time, the arrested person, Pamela Kajuju, who was the complainant’s girlfriend ran the joint with the complainant’s full consent and support.
