Wednesday, April 10, 2024 –Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC has continued with its resolve to fight corruption around the country.
On Wednesday April 10, The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), through its Central Regional office in Nyeri, arrested Luke Nyasangah, a DCI Officer based at Ngano Police Station, Nyandaraua County, for demanding sh 10,000 bribe.
The EACC statement shared on their main communication platforms claimed that the accused demanded the cash from a local resident who had lost sh, 115,000 in an M-Pesa fraud.
The said Kenyan had needed police assistance to recover the lost money when the DCI cop took advantage of his situation and desperation.
“The suspect told the complainant that the bribe was mandatory to facilitate tracking of the fraudsters. He has been put in custody at Charagita Police Post pending further processing,” EACC statement seen by Kenyawide.com read in part.
On March 27, EACC launched the National Ethics and Corruption Survey, 2023 to help provide data on perceptions, magnitude, forms and levels of corruption in the country. The findings of the survey will inform diverse reform actions in addressing the challenge of corruption.
Speaking at the event, Chairperson Dr. David Oginde and CEO Twalib Mbarak singled out impunity, public apathy and lack of leadership commitment in public institutions as leading causes of corruption and mismanagement of public resources. They all urged all public officials to desist from corrupt conduct and serve the public with integrity and accountability.
