Thursday, May 13, 2021 -Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC has established that Dr. Evans Kidero, using corruption proceeds, constructed luxurious apartments he is charging sh 540,000 every month as rental fee.
These revelations were made public by EACC officials probing wealth of the former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero.
The agency is quickly narrowing down to recover millions of cash lost from public coffers when Kidero was serving as the Nairobi Governor between 2013 and 2017. It was claimed that millions got lost from the City Hall under his watch. Most of the cash lost was through dubious tenders some which he was directly involved.
Media reported that the colossal figures were sent on January 7, 2014, through a company registered as Cups Limited, under George Wainaina, who served as chief of staff to Kidero.
The investigating agency further established that the whopping sh 58.8 million was lost during his tenure at Nairobi City Hall where he (Kidero) wired sh 14.4 million to his contractor Virji Meghji who was involved in building his Nairobi’s lavish Riverside apartments.
Kidero’s Gem Suites apartment which are fully furnished only attract rich persons and foreigners who are charged the sh 540,000 per month; which rates are exclusive of services, food and entertainment. All payments are done in dollars.
More records show that Mr. Kidero charges $95 or sh 9,500 every day for one bedroom where guests have to check in at 9AM and leave by 5PM same day.
The integrity commission, in its damning report, confirmed that the suspect siphoned millions from City Hall to upgrade his Riverside Apartments which money must be recovered through repossession process.
