Friday, September 22, 2023 –Former Presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has criticized the ongoing U.S trip by President William Ruto.
Commenting on the trip on Friday 22, 2022, the lawyer claimed that many African heads of State are not happy with the Kenyan leader over his conduct in ongoing global conference.
In the statement seen by this writer, Aukot said, Ruto had been lured by Americans to do the things he is not supposed to do and that this has absolutely nothing to with Kenyan interests.
He further observed that the U.S leadership was projecting Ruto as their Africa continent point man and defender of their interests; what may not go well with fellow African leaders.
“My observation is that it has been turned into a circus. The American Leadership is projecting him as their greatest defender of American interests in Kenya and Africa. They even lauded our president’s misguided suggestion to send troops to Haiti.
“There was nothing about the interests of Kenyans. The other African leaders present are embarrassed. What did you observe? Aukot noted.
Another Kenyan who appeared to support the remarks by Aukot added that, Ruto changes conduct depending on the circumstances and environment.
“The president has been blowing hot and cold. The usual rhetoric he used to win the hearts of poor hustlers. Pitting dynasties against hustlers. He is a Pan-Africanist when he is in AU meeting and even purporting that they only receive photo sessions. Now he is championing western interests, which is okay because they are not corrupt as the East. But they should not trust Ruto since we can’t even trust him back at home,” Isaac said as Mgaagaa added:
“When he comes back, he won’t make any Pan-Africanism utterances again. He will be received different by the AU. They’ve isolated him and now they’ll control him”.
On the other hand, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei – a close friend to Ruto – said his boss Dr. William Ruto, who is in the U.S, had displayed an unmatched wit and brilliance in his leadership style making the Western powers happy with Kenya.
“He should be the President of Africa because he has made Africa recognised globally through pushing for equity and fairness in international financial systems, climate change and assert the role of Africa in global affairs,” Cherargei proposed.
Ruto, his wife Rachel Ruto, Cabinet Secretary CS Foreign Affairs Alfred Mutua, among a few other top State officials are camping in the United States for a series of meetings and MoU signings.
They flew there for the convention Committee of Africa Heads of State on Climate Change held at the African Union Mission in New York, United States U.S.
The Kenyan head of State also held another meeting – the US – Africa Investment Forum – dubbed ‘Changing the African investment paradigm’ before later attending the Climate Forward talk at The New York Times.
