Tuesday, June 6, 2023 – Dagoretti North Member of Parliament MP Beatrice Elachi has asked President William Ruto to lecture his Members in the United Democratic Alliance UDA Party and not the whole Parliament.
Reacting to recent President’s outburst in Narok on the Finance Bill, the Dagoretti North MP who was appearing on NTv AMLive on Tuesday June 6 morning stated that Ruto has a party which he can give lectures to and not all MPs in the country.
“I don’t want to speak anything on what Ruto said in Narok. I believe he was doing that in his capacity as Kenya Kwanza coalition leader and not as the President,” she said.
She advised the President to strictly keep to his lane and stop meddling in the politics of other political parties around the country.
Ms Elachi seized the opportunity to urge Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to respect the voices of citizens and allow them have an input in the Finance Bill 2023 debate.
She, however, stated that in the Bill which she has had a look at, there are some good clauses which she can support but, as well, there are grey areas which must be reviewed in good faith before it passes in Parliament.
The first time MP went on to urge the youth around this country to wake up and pour on the streets to defend their country from bad leadership.
“Raila has done everything since the 90s to see Kenya where it is today… if young people feel this is very painful to them, they should come out to the streets, not the former Prime Minister,” Beatrice Elachi implored.
According to MP Elachi, the Finance Bill 2023 should be modified in a way that suits every Kenyan and not just those in government and close to the presidency.
Asked how she will be voting on the flour, Elachi firmly stated that she already has express instructions from Party boss, just as William Ruto has given instructions to his members.
She felt sorry for MPs from the ruling side which she thinks could be forced to go against the wishes of their voters on the ground.
Fellow MP Peter Salasya and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have both promised to shoot down the Bill despite warnings from the head of State.
