Election Observer Leader Pulls out

Wednesday, August 3, 2022 –News reaching us indicate that that, for unknown reasons, the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Election observation group, Festus Mogae, has stepped down.

Official statement on Wednesday August 3 from the Commonwealth Secretariat, five days to the August 9 General Election, said that Mogae had left the mission due to unavoidable circumstances and in his place taken by former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

Bruce is going to lead the 20-member team currently camping in the country to oversee the elections process pitting Raila Odinga against William Ruto.

Also participating in the contest are Agano Party leader David Mwaure alongiside Prof George Wajakoyah of Roots Party.

The officials touched down in the country after they had been invited by Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.

Mr. Mogae served as Botswana’s president between 1998 and 2008.
