Thursday, July 7, 2022 –Wafula Chebukati has announced that the first batch of ballot papers will be arriving in the country, today.
Addressing this on Thursday July 7, the IEBC Chairman noted that their printer in Greek had dispatched the first consignment to Kenya.
The Commissioner said the reports that some extra ballot papers will be arriving in the country through Uganda border was complete misinformation and that, as far as they are concerned, this cannot happen under his watch.
IEBC then assured the country that the consignments arriving will be kept safely so that to avoid any interference until August 9 when elections will on.
“Today we will receive a number of ballot papers and they are not from Uganda or some funny place, they are secure for the election, there is nothing like extra ballot papers like some politicians have claimed,” stated Mr. Chebukati.
And addressing the printing of extra papers in favour of Ruto, Chabukati said the design and special features on the ballot were reliable and not easy for anyone to copy.
“Let us stop misinforming Kenyans and have a peaceful election.
“We are only going to print ballot papers to the tune of 22,120,258, which is the number of registered voters per every elective seat – there is no additional ballot papers. They are serialized, have security features and are specific to that station,” he also stated.
He also addressed the issue of tender issuance saying the issuance of the job to the Greek firm was open and above board.
“I want to confirm to you that IEBC is an independent institution. We do our work without fear or favour in accordance with the law. We are not directed by any individual or authority,” he stated.
Yesterday July 6, Azimio brigade led by Raila Odinga and Junet Mohamed fired their first warnings at Chebukati over electoral malpractices.
As Odinga called for a manual register to accompany the electronic register, Junet on the other hand, was faulting Senator Moses Wetang’ula for working behind the scenes to bring extra ballot papers through Uganda-Kenya border to mess up the elections.
