Tuesday, June 6, 2023 –Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has exhibited signs of dumping Raila Odinga for William Ruto’s government.
In an apparent support of government’s ideologies and plans, Passaris, while speaking on the controversial Finance Bill 2023, has told KTN Tv that housing remains key to her so that slums can be eradicated from the city.
Her sentiments are, therefore, going against what top Azimio la Umoja leadership are advocating for on the controversial Finance Bill.
The second term MP believes the idea by the William Ruto’s administration to eliminate slums was long overdue and should therefore not be opposed even by those who are in the opposition.
“Even in Azimio, we contained the need to have decent houses in our manifesto. There is an outcry from a lot of people but without pain, there is no gain. We need to eliminate slums. I support the Housing policy,” she said.
Ms Passaris added that the rise in slums around the city was because of the ever-mushrooming slums in Nairobi and that this can only be controlled when urban housing programmes come into place.
While speaking of the existing financial levels among city dwellers, the politician noted that Nairobi should not have huge malls and yet there are people still living in slums.
“Let us give the government benefit of the doubt and pray the government deals decisively,” she argued.
She advised the government to embrace civic education on the Housing matter so that it can sink well into Kenyans minds well before its final implementation.
She blamed the opposition side for misinforming the public on the matter at hand despite the fact that Kenya Kwanza boss Raila Odinga and Martha Karua want their members and supporters to reject the Bill which they claim was not well-drafted and did not factor in wishes of the entire country.
