Sunday, February 26, 2023 –Every homestead will receive a free gas cylinder for use. Government has announced.
President William Ruto has today Sunday February 26 announced that his government will be issuing every household in the country with the cylinder.
This programme will be undertaken in the next three years as part of the government’s effort to ensure that Kenyans use only clean energy.
“I want to assure that in the next three years, we will make sure that every home will have a gas cylinder issued by the government to ensure that we stop using firewood as a source of energy,” Ruto promised.
Speaking in Lamu during a thanksgiving service, the head of State further reiterated that any taxes on gas will be scrapped off so that prices can move down to affordable levels.
So far, his government has paid a contractor upto sh 25 billion to start manufacturing gas that can be supplied across the country.
“As your president, I have already ordered that in the next budget, we will remove all the taxation on gas, to reduce the cost of gas to make it affordable for every household,” President Ruto stated.
He warned that continuous use of wood fuel was not only risky to many lives but also an environmental hazard; what his government wants to put to an end.
“We want to prevent all those health issues that are a result of smoke that come because of using wood as fuel. We want our women to use clean energy to cook,” the president added.
He seized the opportunity to caution rogue cooking gas traders who have been exploiting Kenyans with dangerous, sometimes, adulterated fuel.
