Friday, June 7, 2024 –Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called out Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for attempting to downgrade Kakamega for Bungoma County.

Through a series of tweets made on Friday June 7, the vocal lawmaker accused Speaker of the National Assembly Mr. Wetang’ula and Prime CS Mudavadi for not willing to represent the Western Region which they claim to be official kin pins but instead have focused on shifting Western Region headquarters (Kakamega) to somewhere  else.

“At independence in 1963, our leaders from Bungoma (Masinde Muliro), from Busia (James Osogo), from Trans Nzoia (Wiliam Wamalwa), from Vihiga (JD Otiende) and Kakamega (Martin Shikuku/Musa Amalemba/Clement Lubembe), celebrated and cemented Kakamega as our regional political and commercial capital. Both Musalia’s father and Wamalwa Kijana, who came after them, never attempted to upset this,” Senator Khalwale noted.

He pointed out how Wetang’ula and Mudavadi joined Kenya Kwanza at the late stages of the 2022 general election campaigns with a promise to help the region; only to end up being part of the problems facing the Western Region people.

“We fought hard for William Ruto to be accepted by our people while you were whining and dining with the handshakers. When you joined us, we happily took a step back for you and Musalia Mudavadi to lead us in government. But none of you pushes for the agenda of Kakamega,” Mr. Khalwale further argued.

And responding the Friday June 7 meeting in which Speaker Moses Wetang’ula held with 60 Members of County Assembly MCAs in Kakamega, Khalwale described the event as a mere PR stunt particularly designed by Wetang’ula to make him look like the towering Kingpin in the region when this is not true.

“Mr. Speaker, stop there. You merely met Kakamega MCAs to make diplomatic feel-good statements and take pictures to create your desired perception of a ‘kingpin,” Khalwale charged.

He criticised both Musavadi and Wetang’ula for not willing to help resolve issues facing their region despite holding top public offices in the current administration.

Khalwale now joins the fast-growing list of leaders from Western Region among them Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in pushing the new Luhya agenda which the two now claims has long been ignored by the two leaders at the top of their community.

Recently, during the burial event at Renson Ingonga home where the Late Mama Femina Khayisio was being laid to rest, Wetang’ula and Mudavadi seized the opportunity to hit at Natembeya whom they advisedto respect the senior most leaders from the region.

They threatened him that, should he not calm down the political temperatures, he will blame himself as he will end up as the short-lived politician from Western Kenya.
