Friday, March 3, 2023 –Political and business analysts have linked the recent China Square fiasco to a clever marketing gimmick from Trade Cabinet Secretary CS Moses Kuria.
Speaking on NTV night show on Thursdays March 2, Economic Consultant Prof Fred Ogola noted that CS Moses Kuria is in a deliberate and indirect marketing effort to make the China Square known across the country.
“He has done fantastic marketing for China Square… Kuria didn’t know that China Square had become a wholesale for these other traders he was trying to defend,” he argued.
He gave an example of how Coca cola drink and brand became popular around the world same to a certain energy drink in the US saying, one night, the bottles were strewn all over by someone and when people woke up next morning, they found the bottles all over and thought these were nice drinks for consumption and that is the day the brand picked up globally.
He, therefore, said Kuria was applying the same style to market the Chinese business and what has worked magic for the shop owners.
Prof Ogolla claimed that the CS, of recent, has made so many trips to China and there is a possibility that he is doing something the Chinese have discussed with him in private; adding that the Chinese business people are the smartest in the world today.
“With China Square, CS Kuria is promoting the business. I believe he has a direct benefit with the owners. He has made so many trips to China oflate. It’s a plan,” he asserted.
The NTV show hosted by Ben Kitili also saw Lawyer Noordin Khagai and analyst Didmus Mokua also differ with the government’s move to close the Chinese shopping complex situated along Thika Highway near Kenyatta University.
