Thursday, February 1, 2024 –There was a clash on live Citizen Tv today morning when legislators from both political divides met to debate on the contentious housing levy matter.
On the show was vocal Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his Tana River counterpart Danson Mungatana alongside Farah Malim.
On the matter of governance of the country and whether the housing project is a good thing for the country, Mr. Sifuna, the ODM Party secretary general, differed with the rest saying it remains unconstitutional until the right channel including public participation are exhausted as per the court orders.
He also took a swipe at President William Ruto for speaking ‘lies’ to the country anytime he stands to address the nation.
“I refused to listen to President Ruto’s lies during the recent Parliamentary address because I was not going to stand his lies,” he noted.
It was at this point that Mungatana interjected trying to stop the outspoken Nairobi senator from hurling unprintable at the head of State.
“Speak with respect. This is a generational problem we have in this country. We can’t be sited on a National television to call our elders liars. It’s wrong to call the president a liar. He is your elder,” Mungatana charged.
However, Sifuna, who appeared ever-prepared, told off the lawmaker reminding him that standing orders are only found in the Parliament and not talk shows.
“We have freedom of speech and if Raila lies he must also be called out. Ruto remains a liar because this is an English word that means not speaking the truth,” he clarified.
But Mungatana continued faulting the senator by asking him to desist from maligning the president’s name on live Tv.
“This isn’t an ODM rally, you can’t call the president a liar. Let’s be parliamentary,” he responded.
Quickly, un-wavered Sifuna reminded him that Speaker Amason Kingi was not on Tv to protect him(Mungatana) from savage debate, today.
Maalim and Mungatana were on the side of the government while Lawyer Sifuna, as usual, defended the opposition side led by Raila Odinga.
