Friday, July 29, 2022 –Former Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly, Farah Maalim, has narrowly escaped death following reports of assassination.
Reports reaching Homenews.co.ke desk on Friday July 29 morning indicate that the Wiper deputy party leader, who was a campaign trail in Garissa County drumming up support for Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya escaped the death after security officers changed his route immediately they noticed an Improvised Explosive Device IED had planted on his way.
The Thursday July 28 afternoon incident brought about confusion and delays before a special police unit arrived to detonate it at the scene and make the road passable again.
“Lucky that our hawk-eyed security officers got intelligence information of IEDs planted in my campaign route to Liboi. They halted my convoy, rerouted us to a safe detour and engaged the services of bomb disposal experts.
“They then detonated the IEDs with ease,” Maalim, who serves as Kalonzo Musyoka’s deputy at Wiper reported.
After the bomb disposal experts had rendered it powerless, a huge crater was left on the ground what Farah says could have killed several of them if they had not noticed it earlier.
The Wiper deputy is leading the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance homestretch rallies in the Region. He is also helping other local candidates in their Wiper Party to win the August 9 election.
