Tuesday, Nov 2, 2021 –A fatal accident claimed three lives on Monday afternoon after a private car was involved in ahead on collision with an oncoming PSV Nissan.
Police confirmed the accident having occurred at Njira ya Ngenia area along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Limuru on Monday November 1.
The ghastly accident took place when the saloon car headed to Nakuru was overtaking another car ahead when it collided with matatu which was going towards Nairobi.
“We heard a loud bang followed by cries for help by occupants of the matatu. The occupants of the vehicle were bleeding. It was an ugly scene” Jeremiah Mbugua, an eyewitness said.
The accident caused panic and traffic jam that stretched about 2 KM on both sides of the lanes after the wreckage of the two cars remained on the road.
Addressing on the matter, Traffic boss George Onsongo said the driver and two passengers who were in the saloon car all died on the spot while matatu occupants escaped with severe injuries.
He seized the opportunity to urge every driver along the highway to observe safety precautions this season when end year in approaching.
“We are urging our drivers to be more careful and drive their vehicles at a speed that they can control whenever an incident happens along the road so that we can reduce fatality on our roads. It’s painful to lose loved ones,” the police boss said.
Those who survived were rushed to different health facilities among them Kikuyu Hospital, Limuru Nursing Home and Cottage Hospital in Limuru Town.
The two mangled cars were towed to Tigoni Police Station.
