Wednesday, June 12, 2024 -Integrity agency has partnered with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to repatriate all proceeds of crime stashed abroad.
In a meeting which took place on Tuesday June 11, Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC made the announcement saying this was part of their efforts to trace, locate and get back public money looted by politicians and businessmen.
This partnership between EACC and the FBI will see Kenyan officers trained to acquire modern investigative skills and tools required to realise a lasting solution in a short period.
This plan will see the EACC target high-voltage cases that have seen this country lose billions of monies to powerful individuals and families.
“Today marks a major milestone as we seek to deepen our partnership and explore areas of cooperation. With technical support from the FBI, the Commission will have a greater impact in investigating high-impact cases and robustly pursue recovery of corruptly acquired assets and unexplained wealth,” said EACC CEO, Twalib Mbarak.
And speaking in the meeting, FBI officials who are in the country committed to this partnership and said the meeting will help a great deal in enhancing future work in combating graft within the government of Kenya.
“I had a productive meeting with EACC CEO Mbarak and his team at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission about their important work combating corruption and promoting accountability,” stated FBI Director Wray.
In a statement read in the meeting, the EACC explained that the FBI had already been involved in many specialised trainings with the EACC investigators especially related to financial and economic crimes.
