Wednesday, June 29, 2022 –A female politician was today morning arrested after she appeared on Tv interview clad in full blue police uniform.
The police raided Inooro Tv station in Kilimani area located along Denis Prit Road when the candidate, Monica Wamaitha Gitau, made the mistake against the laws of Kenya.
National Police Service NPS confirmed this Wednesday June 29 incident saying they had driven her to Kilimani Police Station for interrogation and to explain how she found herself with the uniform which is only meant for trained officers.
“Police officers based at Kilimani Police Station today received information of an ongoing interview at Inooro TV hosting an alleged uniformed female police officer as a panelist,” partly read the NPS statement.
It was after doubting the credibility of the candidate that police officers were quickly sent to pick her up for further scrutiny.
“Doubting the credibility of the interviewee police officers rushed to the TV station from where they arrested Monica Wamaitha Gitau, a civilian and an aspirant for the Nairobi Women MP seat in full police uniform,” the NPS also stated.
Police unit has now asked all media houses in the country to first confirm the authenticity of its guests before inviting them on live shows.
“To avoid similar incidences in the future, National Police Service wishes to advise all media houses to always liaise for clearance with the Office of the Police Spokesperson or respective regional or county commanders over all requests for interviews with police officers,” NPS advised.
In Kenya, police impersonation remains a criminal offense which can attract a fine of upto sh 1 million or 10 years behind bars.
