This is according to the provisional results which reflected on the official IEBC servers by morning of Tuesday August 30.
Ex-Kakamega Senator Malala of Amani National Congress ANC Party managed to garner 159,275 votes in the contest in which he was banking on the youthful force.
Though the electoral body IEBC was yet to make official announcement of the results, all indicators pointed at a Barasa win who now will be succeeding Wycliffe Oparanya who had endorsed and campaigned for him all through.
The Star reported that Barasa won in all the constituencies in the Southern region and two others in the Northern region, while his competitor Malala won in all constituencies in the Central and Northern regions.
At some point, the poll was characterized by voter bribery, chaos, intimidation and some incidences of violence especially at Muliro Garden which hosted Kakamega Town Polling Station.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro who had arrived to monitor votes for Malala had to be rescued by GSU police officers from irate Azimio supporters who had started confronting him as a thief send to mess the smooth exercise.
“Nyinyi ni wezi. Leo mtajuwa hamjui ..kwenda toka hapa,” crowd shouted as police frisked him away into their lorry.
This outcome now confirms that Azimio’s contender Raila Odinga still controls Kakamega County with 12 MP seats, 48 of 68 MCAs and Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda.
