Monday, February 12, 2024 –Senior Principal Magistrate Eunice Nyutu has been transferred from Milimani Law Courts to Keroka in Kisii County.
Judge Nyutu is well-known for her role in handling critical corruption cases and fearlessly challenging prosecutorial decisions.
A source told us that she has since been transferred from Milimani Law Courts to Keroka Law Courts following a series of clashes with the Office of Public Prosecutions ODPP, where she has, consistently, resisted premature terminations of cases – notably when she declined to recuse herself from the high-stakes sh 65 billion dams trial involving former Treasury CS Henry Rotich.
Mr. Rotich has since made a comeback in the State office as an official advisor to president William Ruto.
President Ruto has appointed Rotich as the Senior Adviser on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy.
The appointment was made in a letter from the Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei.
And, this transfer of Nyutu happening just days after Chief Justice Martha Koome and President William Ruto agreed to fight corruption in the Judiciary.
The two met at the Statehouse Nairobi in a controversial morning meeting that remains shrouded in darkness. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also attended.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga faulted the meeting which he described as’ ill-advised’ and which was meant to compromise the Constitution and the independence of the Judiciary.
