Friday, July 15, 2022 – The Company at the center of controversy over voting equipment has given a response just a day after journalists exposed flaws in electoral process at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.
The Dutch-based firm, Smartmatic International Holding B.V, through their Communications Director Samira Saba said they are always missioned to help their clients deliver an all credible elections exercise and that what was being peddled out their against them was nolonger true because they had made necessary corrections in their services.
The company has maintained that they will facilitate a smooth electoral process in Kenya on August 9 and therefore no one should fear anything.
“Despite all the misinformation and disinformation in cyberspace, the Philippines is today a reference for well-run elections.
“Elections are prone to controversies; this is true in Kenya, the United States, France and basically everywhere in the world,” their Communication Director, Samira Saba stated, insisting that it had sealed all leaking corners.
The report about what Kenya was thinking on the firm reached them when K24 TV journalist, Ayub Abdukadir, mentioned in an interview with IEBC management how the firm is prone to manipulations.
He poked holes in the manner in which the Wafula Chebukati-led commission did not do due diligence before contracting the questionable firm.
Abdukadir demonstrated how the company had delivered failed elections kits in many countries including the neighbouring Uganda.
This revelation caught IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and his assistant Hussein Marjan unawares as they appeared to struggle to respond to.
They would only manage to tell the journalist who had asked the question to look for the company itself to be able to get a substantive response.
