Thursday, February 2, 2023 –Social media has been awash with claims that security of former president Uhuru Kenyatta and wife Margaret Kenyatta was withdrawn on Thursday February 2 afternoon.
The worrying claims were first boosted on social media by Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai who posted that the former first family had been left stranded in Mombasa where they had traveled to.
“BREAKING: The security and driver of Mama Ngina Kenyatta, President Uhuru’s mother, has been withdrawn. She is stuck in Mombasa and asking what she has to do with politics. She is wondering if she is also in demonstrations,” Alai wrote.
Twitter activist, Pius Kinutha also joined the debate with similar claims saying the Uhuru Kenyatta’s family was stuck in Mombasa the whole day after their security was withdrawn.
“The security and driver of First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta has been withdrawn as well. She is stuck in Mombasa. Petty UDA government,” Kimuthia Pius added.
On her part, Jubilee Party Digital strategist, Pauline Njoroge called out the current regime headed by William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua for playing petty politics.
“How far is Ruto and his people willing to go in their pettiness? They have withdrawn ALL security officers assigned to H.E Uhuru Kenyatta. Provision of security for a retired president is not a favor that the sitting government accords him. It is a requirement of the law,” she commented.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, with contrary opinion, cautioned Raila’s supporters against involving themselves in the Ruto-Uhuru long con political game-plan.
“This NONSENSE of Uhuru and Ruto has started again. The duo shall not hoodwink us this time round. We are wiser. LONGEST CON.The CON is still ON. Uhuru wants Baba to confide in him as he confides in Ruto. Shameless,” he charged.
Though the news is still scanty on the matter, unconfirmed reports are indicating that some changes had been effected around the security team attached to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is yet to make a comment on the matter which seem to be gathering public interest.
