Sunday, September 8, 2024 –Politics of intimidation and abduction have gone on the rise despite the current government having promised to end the culture after taking power.
Embakasi Central Member of Parliament MP Benjamin Gathiru who was addressing in a church service in Kayole today Sunday September 8, openly took issue with President William Ruto’s administration for maintaining the bad culture of intimidation and abductions.
The Gachagua’s ally narrated his recent frustrations by the State where officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI confiscated his mobile phone together with that of MP Gakuya and which they have not given back.
“As I stand here, my phone and that of Gakuya, were confiscated by officers from the DCI and they have refused to return them despite court orders requiring them to do so. The DCI has, instead, decided to continue intimidating us,” he told DP Rigathi Gachagua who was present in the church service.
Gathiru wondered why the current administration was still using the State capture tactics to slow down some members when both the president and his deputy assured the nation that this will be things of the past.
“We agreed that these will be a thing of the past. You and your boss promised that court orders will be adhered to but seems impunity is not ending today or tomorrow. And if it is not ending, like in the last government, people will leave slowly,” MP Gathiru further threatened.
The Embakasi Central lawmaker regretted associating himself with the current government which he also campaigned and voted for in 2022.
He demanded that the DCI department which he claimed is being used politically, stops frustrating innocent persons who seem to criticise the leadership shortfalls.
The MP also noted that, should this culture not be stopped this early, just like in the last government, they will split to start their own new political journey.
He pointed accusing fingers at both President William Ruto and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah saying that the former must tame the latter who has gone on loose by publicly disrespecting DP Rigathi Gachagua.
And sharing his views on the same, DP Gachagua cautioned the DCI against misuse of power and instructed the authority to stick to the rule of law.
