Sunday, May 26, 2024 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked politicians from Rift Valley Region to keep off Mount Kenya politics.
Speaking during his engagement visit in Kesses Constituency in Rift Valley on Saturday May 25, the visibly angry DP who had a busy day, accused some Members of Parliament of meddling in Mt. Kenya politics with an aim of causing friction amongst the leaders.
He charged that Mt. Kenya was becoming unsettled by day due to bad politics and incitement from a section of MPs from Rift Valley where President William Ruto comes from.
“I am advising MPs from this region, in my capacity as the President’s assistant, to stay away from our Mt. Kenya politics.
“What is your interest in another constituency. Everyone is elected in his home and if you want to move elsewhere wait until next elections in 2017,” he stated.
He warned that the current electioneering mood in certain parts of the country is created by a bad culture of political tourism; what must now stop.
According to Mr. Gachagua, his backyard made up of Kikuyus are loyal people who promised and supported President William Ruto 100 percent.
“In the Mountain, we are good people and honest for a fact. We supported Ruto 100 percent and we remain honest, straight forward people. In exchange, we may only need some respect from you here,” he added.
The second in command also warned against political betrayal; saying any signs of betraying the Mountain people will be dealt with equal force.
“We are supporting Ruto and we have his 10-year debt and we are people who keep our word. The only thing we hate is betrayal. You all know that,” also said Gachagua.
On his personal and office relationship with his boss William Ruto, the DP said they are fairing on well with Ruto who has given him enough tasks on his desk to accomplish.
“We are working well with the president and I have enough on my plate including Coffee, tea issues etc,” Mr. Gachagua also mentioned in several meetings and rallies he held in the area.
He read a riot cat against an unnamed young crop of MPs from Ruto’s backyard who are hellbent in setting Mt. Kenya on fire.
“Rift Valley MPs leave Mt. Kenya politics because, there, our politics are not easy. Plan your politics and leave us alone with our politics. Let us support each other as we support the president to move this country forward,” the DP announced.
Mr Gachagua urged all leaders in and outside the government to focus their energy on service to the electorates.
Present in the function was Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary CS Kipchumba Murkomen who seized the chance to advise Gachagua that the office he holds is never for the fainthearted.
Gachagua and his boss William Ruto have, recently, been rumored to be having political and leadership differences with a simmering breakup.
A week ago, DP Gachagua went into a sudden silence, switched off from the public for days before he came out saying he wanted to have a quiet time with his mind and God.
