Friday, March 24, 2023 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed his latest discussion with ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking in Kisii today Friday March 14 during Educations CS Ezekiel Machogu’s homecoming which President William Ruto was in attendance, the DP recounted how Matiang’i phoned him and picked his call before the former urged him to intervene and rescue him from the DCI jaws.
In what Gachagua told the audience today, former president Uhuru Kenyatta had refused picking Matiang’i’s phone calls at the hour of need.
“In the previous administration, Matiang’i was used to intimidate us. Now that they are out of government, they have left him. He is now alone,” he claimed.
And in their about 15minute long phone conversation, the DP recounted being honest with Matiang’i by reminding him how he was misused by the Uhuru’s regime and urged him to learn his lessons well.
“Recently, when he brought trouble to himself by claiming the police raided his house, he called them and they refused to pick up his calls. He called me. Despite being one of the victims, I picked up the phone and told him how he was misused,” Gachagua further said.
He, however, assured the former powerful CS of safety and peaceful days ahead saying William Ruto’s administration will not punish anybody on the grounds past mistakes.
The DP’s remarks are coming at the time Matiang’i’s charges had all been dropped giving him hope and a sigh of relief from constant confrontations with the authorities.
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ODPP determined that the charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information lacked enough evidence.
The former CS had been charged by the DCI following an alleged raid that occurred at his Nairobi’s Karen home on February 8.
