Wednesday, April 19, 2023 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims his choice to protect his boss President William Ruto had triggered the ongoing ICC debate.
Gachagua wondered how this could amount to crimes against humanity to warrant an action from the International Criminal Court ICC
Speaking on Wednesday April 19, Gachagua laughed at the threats from Azimio la Umoja saying this may not see the light of day.
“Azimio is threatening to report me at the Hague, I don’t know how defending your boss can be a crime against humanity. They have been in the streets for many years they don’t even think well. How can defending your boss and his programs become a crime to be reported at the Hague,” he said.
He added that the ICC will dismiss any attempts by the opposition to use it to play local politics and to settle political scores.
He added that Azimio-allied politicians are yet to understand how the international court works and how it gets involved into international matters.
“Any problem they have with anybody the solution is the ICC, please defend your bosses,” he told other State officers.
His sentiments come days after Raila said he will take him(Gachagua) to the ICC over an alleged assassination attempt and harming and killing of his supporters during the recent anti-State demos.
According to Mr. Odinga, DP Gachagua sent police officers who he claimed fired eleven bullets at his convoy during mass protests held on March 27 and 30.
He described Gachagua as an accused person who should be dragged to court for crime-related charges.
The opposition honcho made the threats during Sunday’s rally held at Kamukunji Grounds.
