Friday, October 28, 2022 –A whopping sh 104 million have been raised to support citizens in drought and hunger-stricken regions around the country.
Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, alongside Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria today Friday October 28 presided over a funds-drive that saw sh 104 million contributed in a record one hour.
The fund-raising exercise had been organized by Kenya Association of Manufacturers KAM which will purely channel the amount to the noble initiative.
Making this confirmation, DP Gachagua said that they managed to raise the amount; this being part of their efforts in cubing hunger in the country.
“This is part of KAM’s Initiative of Environment, Social & Governance. This response was overwhelming, raising sh 104 Million to help in this course,” he confirmed.
Gachagua added that there is dire need to drive a sustainable and long-lasting solution to have agriculture feed the country without having to always rely on relief and donations.
The DP was also in the company of several other leaders among them EAC CS Rebecca Miano, and her Cooperative counterpart Simon Chelugui.
Last month, President William Ruto led his government in dispatching relief food to famine-stricken families and livestock in various parts of the country.
Speaking during the flagging off exercise held at Statehouse Nairobi, the head of State said the food will benefit 3.5 million victims affected by the drought that has since ravaged 23 counties in a short period.
