In his speech, the deputy president, captured in a video which landed on our desk Monday morning, he said, through the bipartisan talks are starting, there is still no permanent guarantee that Odinga has called off his protests and, therefore, attempting to give him back his security may see him resume demonstrations.

“We have heard you are going to have talks, well and good. But since I have not seen a commitment that you denounce violence and give Kenyans a guarantee that you are not going back to the streets, those police men will remain on standby.

“If in the next two three months you are of good behavior no demonstrations and chaos, we will return those officers to you to guard you, but for now, we cannot risk because you may return on the streets,” Gachagua added.

The news about Mr. Odinga and President Ruto meeting emerged when DP Gachagua was out of the country for an official duty.
