Saturday, June 8, 2024 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has described the alleged crisis in the ruling party as a media creation.
Addressing this concern in Kericho County today Saturday June 8, the second in command downplayed any crisis in their party saying; the meeting planed by party leader William Ruto is aimed at discussing the ongoing grassroots election.
The DP told supporters that the meeting is part of the routine exercise normally held by many political organisations to address something in particular and not just a crisis.
On that note, the DP advised supporters across the country to ignore the crisis rumour and focus on the actual goal of the meeting.
This is despite earlier reports form certain sources which hinted that Ruto was concerned about the ongoing supremacy in the party and had summoned everybody for a meeting.
“There is no crisis in UDA. The other day when the President was leaving, he instructed me to convene the meeting and I called it. We are talking about the party primaries and other matters of the party because we want to strengthen it,” said DP Gachgua.
And while speaking about their wrangles and succession politics, Gachagua said it was too early to start thinking and planning about who will be where in 2032.
The succession tussle within the party, the DP noted, is derailing the main leadership agenda for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He urged everyone to remain behind the head of State so that to help him realise his plan to deliver to those who put him into power.
The DP was speaking this despite open back and forth among members. Apart from key figures in UDA contradicting his utterances and directives, Secretary General Cleophas Malala is also a marked man in the party as some sections continue to call for his removal.
Already, a petition has been filed to oust the secretary general citing bias, incompetence and lack of academic qualification to run a serious political outfit.
