Monday, June 26, 2023 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today Monday June 26 walked into the ruling party headquarters amid claims of leadership challenges.
Asked by the media about the status in their ruling party as well as leadership, the second in command noted that the party was steady and on the right channel.
“Our party, United Democratic Alliance, is steadfastly growing as we expand political boundaries and welcome more members to our fold.
“On Monday evening, I visited the party offices for consultations with officials who have been tasked with keeping the party strong and formidable. UDA is a democratic party, and members are free to express themselves without fear of intimidation,” he stated.
He was reacting to a question from one of the journalists who had sought to know his views on the leadership of Secretary General Cleophas Malala after two UDA MPs – Senator Cherargei and Gladys Shollei clashed today over Malala’s ability to govern the party.
Responding to the journalist, DP Gachagua said that the good thing with UDA is that it is a democratic outfit and everyone has a leeway to criticize each other, constructively.
“UDA Party encourages democracy. The reason we ran away from Jubilee was because of dictatorship. You could not even talk about the chairman or vice chairman even if they did something wrong; but in UDA, members are free to talk,” Gachagua said.
DP Gachagua, however, seized the opportunity to caution Mr. Cleophas Malala against signs of poor leadership and dictatorship on members.
He, instead, asked him to listen to members and share with them every detail about the party so that everybody feels accommodated and appreciated.
DP added that Malala should be ready to be faulted by the members who feel something is going wrong and use the criticism to make things better.
He warned that, together with Party leader William Ruto, they will not allow mismanagement of the party which handed them power in the August polls.
He, therefore, gave the former Kakamega County senator another opportunity to change for the overall betterment of their party.
Today Monday June 26 morning on live Tv, Uasin Gishu Woman Represantative described Malala’s style of leadership as wanting following a spate of violence in many of his charm-offensive recruitment gatherings around the country.
