Thursday, June 8, 2023 –Self-styled youth leader Calvin Okoth aka Gaucho now wants to meet with President William Ruto amid escalating fallout with Azimio leadership.
Media reports have indicated that the diehard supporter of Raila Odinga has refuted a belief that he is a permanent member in Azimio la Umoja.
Gaucho told reporters that the only thing that tied him with the opposition movement was to address the plight of the helpless Kenyans.
He has also mentioned that he is among the architects of the anti-government protests in the country and now he feels like he is being used for other peoples to benefit.
“Mimi si wa Azimio, Kitu imetuunganisha na Azimio ni masuala ambayo wananchi wanapitia. Mimi ni president wa Bunge la Wananchi,” Gaucho explained in his Thursday June 8 interview.
The outspoken youth leader has, therefore, expressed his willingness to meet with President William Ruto just like he has been meeting Odinga.
According to the vocal youth, he worked with the Raila-led coalition because he believed that they shared the same vision as to ideologies.
“When he (President Ruto) calls me, I will meet him because the Azimio leader is Raila Odinga. I am just the ghetto president and I represent the people living in the slums. I am neither in Kenya Kwanza nor Azimio,” he stated.
But before meeting with Ruto, Gaucho laid down conditions to be fulfilled first among them being that their meeting should be public to avoid misinformation and suspicions.
The Bunge la Mwananchi president also warned Ruto, in advance, that this meeting should not be meant to make him(Gaucho) a government channel for political stunts.
“As long as he does not use the meeting for publicity like he has done with other politicians in the past, I will have no problem.
“If he calls me, it should be something very open to the public because the people he surrounds himself with are very controversial,” Gaucho explained.
Gaucho said his intentions to meet with Ruto regards a myriad of questions that he wants addressed especially on matters youth and joblessness.
He, nonetheless, pointed out that he will not stop to advance his usual criticism on the ruling regime.
