Thursday, September 26, 2024 –Every Kenyan above eighteen years is required to officiate registration of new health services under the newly-introduced Social Health Fund SHA.
It is official that any Kenyan willing to receive medication in a public hopsital must now have registered for SHA from the old National Hospital Insurance Fund NHIF.
This new health system, which will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), is set to roll out on October 1.
Elijah Wachira, CEO of the Social Health Authority, was firm in his stance. He made it clear that walking into a hospital without being registered will no longer be tolerated. Those without SHA membership will be required to register on the spot before receiving treatment.
“The registration can be done through sha.go.ke, *147#, or afyangu.go.ke as per attached registration manual. A soft copy is also available on www.sha.go.ke. For any challenges during registration please contact Social Health Authority call center on 0800720601 or info@sha.go.ke”.
SHA registration commenced on July 1, 2024, under the stewardship of former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has announced.
The fund would, however, be declared unconstitutional by the High Court on July 12, in a blow to the government’s plan to replace NHIF with SHA.
