Monday, August 1, 2022 –All schools country-wide are required to shut down to pave way for general election preparedness which his supposed to take place on August 9.
Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof George Magoha, has announced that schools should shut down from tomorrow Tuesday August 2 so that to resume on August 11, after the general elections.
Speaking this at Alliance Girls High School on Monday August 1, Prof Magoha directed that the break was inevitable due to existing political circumstances.
“We are breaking again this month and we will not open after the general polls,” CS Magoha said.
He also added that in the event there is a re-run shoudl Ruto-Raila tie, the date to reopen will again be communicated appropriately.
“We may have to sit down as stakeholders and see whether it will be fair to examine the children if they will have lost a considerable amount of time, I pray that that does not happen, these children have suffered,” Magoha explained.
He, however, warned that politicians of any level will not be allowed to hold rallies inside school compounds.
“We do not want politics in schools because the students have a very short term and it is only fair that they are left alone,” Magoha also noted.
This 2022 academic year will have Kenya Certificate of Primary Education KCPE, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE, and grade three and six exams under the Competency Based Curriculum CBC.
