Sunday, May 7, 2023 –Freedom Fighter Field Marshall Mukami Kimathi will be accorded a State funeral fully funded by the government.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said, on Sunday May 7, that their government was committed to making sure the Marshal is accorded the best sendoff ever.

This, Gachangua argued, is as a sign of appreciating her major role in liberating the country from the chains of colonisation.

“The Government, led by President William Ruto, will give her a decent and dignified burial that is befitting her status and contribution to the liberation of our country. We affirm that we will stand with the family of our departed Field Marshal Mukami in her honour. It is the right thing to do,” he promised.

Kenyans of all walks have since been invited to participate in her burial scheduled to take place on May 13.

Speaking during a memorial service of the late freedom heroine at her home in Njabini, Nyandarua County, the DP described her as a selfless person.

He added that she, together with her husband Dedan Kimathi, volunteered to fight the British colonial forces until Kenya got its deserved independence.

“President William Ruto will attend the funeral. I met the family to check on the burial preparations; the government will meet the burial expenses,” said DP Gachagua.

He, however, regretted why the Mau Mau fighters in the country delivered freedom and independence for the nation, but never got land.
