Monday, February 13, 2023 –Government has replaced police uniform with new ones just six months after taking charge.
These police uniforms, last year were changed twice moving to the blue ones which Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime introduced towards the end of their term.
This saw the then Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i clash with the William Ruto’s UDA wing which faulted the move saying even the colour and design was below the standards.
“William Ruto and UDA militia do not have capacity to problems in the National Police Service NPS. They are part of the problems,” then CS Matiang’i stated in a media briefing.
And at the height of the last general election campaigns, then Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua promised the police that the uniform’s will be changed from the blue colour immediately after they take power.
And true to his words, the new white shirt uniforms were introduced on Monday February 13 with Inspector General of police Japhet Koome being the first officer to wear them in public.
This has seen members of the public wonder whether this was a priority amid current biting cost of living in the country.
