Sunday, October 22, 2023 – President William Ruto has made a big u-turn on El Nino rains in the country and stated that the current rains are good for agricultural activities.
The head of State, therefore, has asked Kenyans to make good use of the rains to plant and harvest so that to deal with the shortage of food in the country.
While referencing his assertion to the met’s latest report, President Ruto said it is time families go back to their land to plant.
“We heard reports that the country will experience El Nino rains, which have the potential to destroy property. But God has been faithful.
“We have now heard the meteorologists saying that will no longer be the case. We will just have heavy rains. We thank God,” the President explained.
This is in contrast to an earlier projection, by the Kenya Meteorological Department that the country will have heavy downpour characterized by floods and strange temperatures that may run from this month of October to December.
In Western Kenya and parts of Rift Valley, the meteorological department had indicated that El Nino effects would extend to January 2024.
The head of State, has now attributed to the change of weather pattern to his faith in God and the national prayer conducted at the Nyayo Stadium sometimes back.
