Government Moves to Arrest Suspects in Raila’s Chopper Stoning

Saturday, April 2, 2022 –Government has issued an official statement on the Friday April 1 stoning of Azimio la Umoja chopper in Uasin Gishu County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has asked police to swing into action and bring to book anyone who was involved in planning and executing of the crime that almost left ODM Party Raila Odinag and his team leader injured.

Dr. Matiang’i has condemned the act and said it must not be lost that police department will not spare anyone regardless of their status in the society.

“I call upon the National Police Service (NPS) to investigate the matter and ensure that all the culprits and their masterminds are made to swiftly and decisively face the consequences of their criminal actions,” he stated.

He further stated that his team will take any such criminals serious and subject them to the full force of law so that to stop the ‘campaign season madness’ like that which took place in 2007/8 PEV.

“The regrettable incident is a sad and atavistic reminder of the ugly face of violent political intolerance that our beloved motherland has worked hard to consign to the annals of a painful history in the last 14 years. I condemn this,” read the statement in part.

Already, National Police Service NPS has since confirmed that Regional Commissioner for Rift Valley had been tasked with overseeing the investigations and arrest those involved.

In his Friday April 1 statement, Azimio leader Mr. Odinga noted that he had received reliable information from the ground that two key allies to the Deputy President William Ruto were actively involved in planning the cowardly attack.

In his statement through Facebook and Twitter, Raila singled out Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany as well as Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago as the leaders who decided to stretch that far so that to harm him.

The incident took place during the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor in Iten.
