Wednesday, July 10, 2024 –President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga are reportedly planning to form a government of National Unity.
In a report by Daily Nation issue of Wednesday July 10, it is claimed that Odinga’s ODM Party is now in bed with the Kenya Kwanza regime and plans are underway to make it part of the current regime in what will be called a government of National Unity to reflect the face of the country.
This is after the opposition emerged in a press briefing at the Kenyatta International Conference Center KICC on Tuesday July 9 with President William Ruto where both teams announced a six-day dialogue to look into the NADCO report that was prepared at the Bomas of Kenya Grounds under the leadership of Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
Raila seized the opportunity to state that, should the report be fully implemented, then the country’s current challenges will be made a thing of the past.
Weighty NADCO Report
He said the recommendations in the report carry a lot of weight and will address the current stalemate facing the country between the young people and their government.
Odinga listed unemployment, cost of living among other things as key in the report that has took Ruto months to start its implementation.
“I agree with my brother Kakonzo that as Azimio we wanted the matter of the cost of living to be discussed as part of NADCO. Kenya Kwanza insisted “that it was strictly a government affair.” However, as is evident even today, the cost of living is the most important issue,” noted Mr. Odinga.
This is after Kalonzo and Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua appeared to have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Dialogue that Odinga and Ruto have proposed.
“Dialogue can only be meaningful if the players have good faith and are guided by the best interests of the people.
“Let’s be careful as the political class lest we hijack the genuine clamour for accountability and reforms by the Gen Zs.
“I agree with those who say Action Now on the clear and attainable demands of the GenZ to enhance accountability and make the state work for the masses rather than for a handful elites,” Karua tweeted.
She was also supported by former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni who noted that the current problems facing the nation are artificial and are meant to pull back together the usual political class.
Kioni warning
He warned that this kind of formations are usually short-lived and a time bomb especially among the majority youths who are still dissatisfied with what their leaders have been doing in office.
“They strategically deploy the political class like pawns, engaging them in different actions disguised as necessary measures in the name dialogues and reports that push the boundaries of acceptable violence and political grandstanding. When these actions push too far, the political class is compelled to intervene, ostensibly rescuing the state from its own people and thereby avoiding what appears to be a precipice but is in reality a recurring political crisis,” remarked Kioni.
It is also reported that, through social media posts, the young men and women in the country have rejected any attempts to be led by any politician in the Ruto-Raila dialogue.
They claim that they are a faceless organisation and do not have any leadership in place as of now and that they will only settle down when their grievances are fully addressed.
