Thursday, May 30, 2024 –Interior Cabinet Secretaries Kithure Kindiki and Defence Aden Duale are the only officials who will be allowed to use military choppers, going forward.

All State officials have been barred from boarding the Kenya Defence Forces KDF choppers going forward.

This was revealed to the media by the Defense Cabinet Secretary CS Aden Duale on Thursday May 30 who said only him and Kithure Kindiki are not affected.

“When I’m going for an operation, I’ll use military assets, even my colleague CS for Interior, if he’s going to the North Rift or a place that is not secure, he will also use our assets,” said Duale.

In the directive, only KDF personnel will be allowed to use their official choppers, this being part of the new measures to avoid further insecurity issues.

Politicians, therefore, will not be assigned any military flights or assets to use for their day-to-day activities including government functions.

CS Duale revealed this on Citizen TV, where he said that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) assets will be strictly used for carrying soldiers.

“We have now a policy in KDF, we are not going to carry politicians, at all. I mean helicopters are meant for specific functions within KDF,” stated the Defence CS Aden Duale.

He detailed that it looks bad to allow misuse of the only assets used to defend the country from aggressors.

“They are part and parcel of the assets we have in safeguarding the country. They carry our troops, go to operations so not only helicopters but all our assets, going forward.”

On former Chief of Defense Francis Ogolla’s death and investigations, Mr. Duale intimated that the team responsible for the investigations was working all round the clock to ensure that no stone was left un-turned.

The team, he shared, is already in the United Sates to meet with the manufacturers of the ill-fated chopper which crashed with Ogolla on board.
