Thursday, August 26, 2021 -Government has termed the changes in security at Deputy President William Ruto’s homes as normal re-assignment of duties within the police service.
Spokesman Bruno Shioso explained that this is purely implemented by government for ‘efficiency as effectiveness’.
Citizen Digital reported that Mr. Shioso had further clarified that the GSU officers deployed at Ruto’s residence had been replaced with Security of Government Building Unit SGB.
“Today 26th August, 2021 the Security of Government Buildings Unit (SGB) has been deployed to provide general security to the official residence of H.E the Deputy President from General Service Unit (GSU). This is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness,” read the statement from the spokesman.
He also said the Presidential Escort Unit PEU continues to be committed in making sure Ruto’s safety was guaranteed.
On their part, Ruto’s Communication team lad by Mr. David Mugonyi had earlier claimed that the government was yet to respond to their concerns on ‘unlawful withdrawal’ of security detail.
“This morning, the Deputy President was briefed by the security officer in charge of General Service Unit attached to his official residence in Karen that he had received verbal instructions to withdraw all GSU officers effective 2.00pm,” said Mugonyi in a statement.
Mugonyi also detailed that withdrawal had affected all of His Excellency’s residences both in Nairobi and in the village home Surgoi with no explanation from authorities.
