Tuesday August 10, 2021 -All civil servants have been directed to take their free Covid-19 vaccine.
In a fresh government circular seen by Homenews.co.ke desk on Monday August 9, every civil servant must be inoculated from Covid by August 23.
Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua observed that there has been a low intake of the vaccine by civil servants despise having been given a leeway to go for one before anyone else.
“This is against a background of access to vaccines having greatly improved, especially among these groups,” partly read his statement.
In the statement, Kinyua confirmed that those who had not been injected had deliberately decided to dodge the exercise for their own reasons. Many who had been found doing this defended that they were working from home.
“It has, therefore, been decided that all civil servants will be prioritized in the ongoing vaccination exercise and that those who will not have been given the 1st jab by August 23, 2021, be treated as discipline cases and appropriate action taken against them,” read an excerpt of the statement.
On that note therefore Principle Secretaries and all accounting officers have since been mandated to oversee the exercise and make sure people in their respective departments are vaccinated as required by the Ministry of Health.
Records confirmed that by Monday, 2,323,100 vaccines had been received. 1,105,470 had been received for the first doses while 698,905 were received for the second exercise.
