Friday, February 9, 2024 -Justice Grace Nzioka delivered judgment in the case where Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe are charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.
The High Court, therefore, found Jowie guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani.
“It is the finding of this court the first accused person murdered Monica Kimani. I find the first accused person guilty as charged”.
Monica, 28-years-old then, was murdered in her Lamuria Garden apartment in the Kilimani area, on September 19, 2018.
The judgment was initially set to be issued on October 6, 2023, but was deferred after Lady Justice Grace Nzioka was reported to be ill.
Murder Suspect Joseph Irungu, aka Jowie, vehemently denied any connection with Monica Kimani and refuted claims of being at her residence on the fatal night, challenging eyewitnesses’ accounts and disavowing incriminating evidence, including a disputed dining video and blood-stained shorts.
The evidence by the first accused person that he did not know the deceased person was found to be insincere and misleading.
Judge Grace Nzioka noted that Ms Maribe gave false information to the police about the shooting incident to divert their attention when she was aware of the destruction of evidence.
Maribe has since been acquitted.
