Monday, October 9, 2023 –High Court in Lagos Nigeria has sentenced a male cop to death by hanging.
The Court today Monday October 9, made the historic sentence against police officer, Darambi Vandi, who is accused of shooting Lawyer Bolanle Raheem in the chest at Ajah Roundabout on the Lekki expressway on December 25, 2022.
It was established that he pulled a trigger at the harmless lawyer Bolanle Raheem on Christmas day. The victim was an expectant mother when she met her cruel death.
In the court hearing, the judge Ibronke Harrison read out the summary of the prosecution findings.
“The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” read the ruling.
Two other police officers who were at the scene of the shooting gave their account saying they heard the shots but could not tell who had fired.
“We did not see our colleague Vandi pull the trigger though we heard the shots,” they recounted.
Autopsy report from doctors had also proven that there was a bullet lodged into the body of the late lawyer Bolanle.
Though the accused officer pleaded not guilty before the court, the court found out that he had committed the crime.
He defended that the bullet which had been presented to the court was not in his rifle he had carried on the fateful day.
The police officer is attached to the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area of the State.
