Saturday, December 4, 2021 –Members of Al-Shabaab militia have killed two police officers through a bloody ambush attack in Mandera.
The said terrorist group members, on Saturday December 4, opened fire at the officers at Bamboo area in Mandera at the time they(officers) were delivering foodstuffs to a nearby camp. 10 other officers were critically injured in the crossfire.
Initially, the officers, who were traveling in a lorry belonging to the National Police Service NPS, had dodged a grenade attack from the militia when the suspected Al-Shabaab militants decided to unleash the force of a gun.
An eye-witness confirmed that the driver of the truck had tried to drive fast past the heavy gunfire but the tyres of the lorry were, unfortunately, deflated hence exposing them to the danger.
North Eastern Regional Police Commander Rono Bunei made the confirmation of the ugly incident saying more officers have been deployed in the area.
The incident comes a day just after detectives arrested a 22-year-old woman suspected to have been recruited to the Somali-based terror group, Al Shabaab. The suspect was nabbed in Nandi County following a tip off from members of the public.
