Sunday, December 12, 2021 –The marking of the 57th Jamhuri Day celebration saw members of the public head to Lang’ata Road at the Historic Uhuru Garden, Nairobi.
Uhuru Garden has been closed for some months as renovations to uplift its look were ongoing; this being part of the preparations for the big day which is also the last under President Uhuru Kenyatta leadership.
Government announced that they expected at least 11,000 guests at the venue now that it has fallen on a weekend; unlike many other past national events.
Uhuru Garden was, at last, opened to host President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration for their last Jamhuri Day as the next administration prepares to take over from 2022.
Early in the morning, military men dressed in the green combat attire were spotted walking around, an indication that security had been prioritized.
At the entrance, the security checks were tight as police ensured wananchi were frisked before accessing the venue.
Permanent Secretary for Interior Karanja Kibicho was there to monitor the exercise which also required that everyone must wear his or her facemask to enter.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto graced the event.
